‘The vibe at Skirt Club has always maintained a sense of ‘women getting away with it’’.

If you’re not yet in on the best kept secret of women all around the world, the cat is officially out of the bag. Open in more than 30 cities globally, Skirt Club is the private member’s club for bicurious and bisexual women to explore their desires in a space free from the male gaze.

We rendezvoused with the siren behind the seduction, the trailblazing Genevieve LeJeune.

Could you briefly introduce yourself?

I’m Genevieve LeJeune, Founder and CEO of Skirt. Proud mother to Skirt Club and now Skirt Society, our new community app for curious and bi-women.

What was your journey to setting up Skirt Club?

Skirt Club is a passion project gone WILD. I wanted to off-set my career in finance with a little fun at the weekends and it ended up taking over my life. I had been seeking community with other bisexual women but did not know where to find them. Back in 2013 dating apps were not invented yet, so I bought a ticket for my boyfriend and I to a play party with the intention of making new friends.

One by one I began to curate a trusted group of women I could express myself freely with and in turn they too built friendships. We held our first soirée at my Shoreditch flat for just 15 very nervous women- privacy was paramount and the guest list was ultra discreet. And so it began….

How would you describe the vibe of a Skirt Club party?

The vibe at Skirt Club has always maintained a sense of ‘women getting away with it’, ‘a girl’s best kept secret’, ‘what happens at Skirt Club stays at Skirt Club’ – a feeling of thrill and camaraderie.

It has for thousands of women been the most liberating night of their lives. Opening doors to new ways of sex and sensuality, most had not considered theirs for the taking. Gleeful delight, sumptuous discovery, dopamine on rapid-fire and all from natural sources. It’s an energy-high most women have not experienced since her first kiss, as a teenage girl.

What’s your mission? Has it changed since you started out?

The mission has never changed, if anything it deepened. It started out with a mission to normalise bisexuality and bring light to the silent B in LGBTQ, explaining many misunderstandings around the grey area between straight and gay. We then realised the critical importance of agency women should have over their body and self pleasure.

Which further spiralled into a major catalyst in the 4th wave of feminism experienced 2016-2019 when a woman finally accepted that her own happiness was a human right not a selfish request.

This past decade has been a huge turning point for equal rights and women have finally stepped into their own and asked for what they want, cultivating ‘confidence bedroom to boardroom’ as I coined it in 2014 from the outset.

Who is Skirt Club for?

It’s for women seeking a safe space to explore their sexuality with other women.

We see a high majority of first timers at our events, we’re known for being a very welcoming place to start your journey.

What are the 3 top values of Skirt Club?

  • Radical self acceptance. A woman’s sexual preference and ownership of her sexual desires is akin to coming home to yourself.
  • No judgement, in terms of her right to privacy and dignity.
  • Intelligent sex. Learning and sharing ways to strive for the ultimate sensual-sexual existence.

What is a small and unexpected pleasure you get out of creating Skirt Club?

It’s the letter of thanks on Monday mornings. Often Members are surprised at the change in their body and mindset after attending an event. It takes a day to set in. Then Monday strikes and the world is an incredible place, not a chore any more.

Comments such as “a found a part of me I never knew was there” “I will never be the same again” “Yes, yes and more Yes” Thank you for waking me up”.

What do you wish more people knew about Skirt Club?

That Skirt Club was made with love, by the women who run it. Women who simply want for you what they experienced themselves at their first party.

That is an awakening made possible, thanks to the safety of the space we hold.

Do you get to see how Skirt Club helps its members?

Yes, first hand and that is my source of joy. I particularly enjoy hearing how the following months or years played out for them. There can be life changes and small shifts in perception. It’s a wonder to see where Skirt Club took them.

What do you wish could change right now in the sex-positive scene?

Men.

Conscious men is where it’s at.

What are your favourite people, parties, orgs or general inspirations?

My favourite people are the ones true to themselves. They’ve figured out what makes them happy and settled into their chosen path, content to be there, wide eyed, bushy-tailed, relishing the everyday life offers.

Some recent communities and festivals I recently joined and loved; Ondalinda, Summit, Burning Man, Love Burn, Envision festival.

I recently sailed the South Atlantic with Soul Sail to re-centre, I was seeking some inward inspiration and ocean waves are hypnotic. It took us 25 days to sail from Brazil to Cape Town, we were OFF the GRID in a major way.

I now relish no-phone days. I’m still perplexed why we spend so much time looking down when we should be looking up.

What do you predict for the future of sex in society?

The future of sex and sexuality is a world where we can all express our desires without judgement and find our community and counterparts in realising them. The quirkier the better. Let’s break the mould, for this is why it exists.
