The Scene: I’ve just reconnected with a friend I met while doing my yoga teacher certification in Thailand on FacetTime. Her name is Lexie Lioness, and as the name indicates, she is fierce af. After catching me up on the legal nightmare she’s facing due to her past involvement in a pot farm in California (apparently the feds haven’t gotten the memo that it’s 2022 and weed is medicine), Lexie lets loose about her camming journey:

Lexie: I started my Only Fans right when I came back from Thailand in 2020, as a little backup thing. Thank God I did that. At the beginning of the pandemic, I made a lot of money and it was what paid for me to survive after I got arrested, lost my livelihood, and had to hire lawyers. It was some inner knowing to set myself up the way I did.

Jules: Wow. That’s amazing. What drew you to camming in the first place?

Lexie: Growing up in Florida made me very comfortable in my skin and in a bathing suit. I’ve always embodied a sexy vibe on social media, posting whatever and everything.

Jules: Facts! You are all about that kundalini energy on Instagram and I love it.

Lexie: There was this chick that I didn’t know personally but who I had some mutual friends with. She ended up reaching out to me on social media being like “Hey, you’re already doing this. You might as well be selling these photos online instead of just posting them for free on your Instagram.” I was already annoyed with Instagram for flagging my shit sometimes for too much booty or whatever so I figured why not just start another platform and make a little bit of money with it. She had an incentive to recruit me because at the time, they were giving her 5% of the 20% being taken out of my earnings.

Jules: So Only Fans was taking 20% of what you made, and of that 20%, she was getting 5%?

Lexie: Ya and I thought that was really cool because it meant less money was going to the dude at the top and more was going to the users. So yeah, I joined and at first I just posted some bikini photos. By the end of the first month, I had made like five grand.

Jules: Damn girl!

Lexie: Ya and I was living on the mountain at the time, so I wasn’t really spending money. It was so nice. I’ve never been a person to have a lot of money just waiting there so that was really cool. At the time, I was working at the ranch so I would do these cool, ranch-themed photos with different friends that came up to shoot me. I was not into the full like porn stuff at this point but I had a girlfriend up at the ranch who I would make out with and then sell a video of it. It was all very soft. I’d be posing and there’d be sheep in the background. And it was just cute and a little different than the rest of the chicks that were out there.

Jules: Amazing! So when was this all going down?

Lexie: This was in March of 2020, when I came back from the ashram in Thailand basically. I had set it up before but had been too afraid to drop it on my Instagram. But whenever a guy would slide into my DMs with some like pervy shit, I would just send him the link and that was like the only way I got any traction at first.

I made a hundred bucks here and there from January to March and then when I came home at the end of March, I decided that I might as well launch this thing. It started slowly. Now ’m selling sex tapes. The guy I’m dating is super chill and down to be involved with it.

Jules: That’s so fun!

Lexie: When we’re having sex, one of us will ask, “Should we film?” and the other one will either be like “Ya” or “Nah but maybe tomorrow.”

Jules: I love that. And honestly, the way you describe sharing your cam site link exclusively to pervy losers you don’t care to begin with seems way less intimidating than promoting yourself on social media from the get-go. I have an album with NSFW pictures and videos that I’m just sending out for free to guys I sleep with. I might as well make a profile on one of these sites and send the link out in bulk. Worst case, no one bites. Best case, I end up a few bucks richer.

Lexie For sure! There’s so many ways to show up and interact with people there. There’s chicks just doing video calling. There’s chicks that don’t do any porn. This one chick I know sends nudes sometimes and she doesn’t even show her pussy. Granted, she’s got a really big Instagram following from other stuff, so she does make a lot of money on there because she gets so much traction. That’s like the crux of OnlyFans. I was using TikTok to promote for a while because there was a moment where TikTok hadn’t been monetized yet and so you didn’t really need to pay to get your shit seen. I would get up to like 80,000 followers on TikTok and then I’d get banned. So then you have to start from the beginning. By the third time I did that, I wasn’t really bringing that many subscribers over and so I just was like, all right, I’ve become a slave to this TikTok machine.

Jules:  That’s a lot of followers though. Damn!

Lexie: Yeah, I know and the videos were stupid. I would just be lip singing, looking sexy. One time, I wore this top with a bra over it and I was like, “I’m good, nothing’s going to happen because I’m covered up,” but I still got banned for posting it.

Jules: That must be so frustrating!

Lexie: It is. For a while, it was bringing me a lot of traction and so it was worth it. It’s definitely essential to promote yourself on social media because it’s not like there’s a directory of girls on OnlyFans to browse through. You only really get traffic if you’ve generated it from other places  first. Twitter is a big space for that because you can pretty much post yourself being penetrated and it doesn’t get taken down. And then there’s the app called Telegram…have you heard of it?

Jules: Yeah, I love how it notifies you when someone you know joins because the whole point of the app is discretion but then it’s like, “Well now I know all my friends who are buying drugs,” cause that’s basically what people use it for.

Jules: Yeah, so what I’m doing there isn’t anything too crazy. There’s groups of like 10,000 people in them and it’s basically all cam girls selling promo. So you pay someone with a large following for what’s called a guaranteed gain and they will promote you. So if I pay for say 300 guaranteed subscribers, they will promote me until I meet that goal. And then it’s my job to get the new subscribers to stay subscribed and buy content. People will come and check out my page and then what I normally do is send out a lot of messages, offering content between $3 and $50, depending on what it is. The thing about OnlyFans is that it’s super volatile. Remember that time they almost banned all sex workers?

Jules: Yes! That must have been super stressful to anyone who was relying on that for their main source of income.

Lexi: Totally. I honestly think it was a publicity stunt because when they decided to reverse the decision, it brought all this attention.

Jules Everybody who didn’t know what OnlyFans was all of a sudden knew what OnlyFans was.

Lexi: Exactly! Going back to the volatility thing, the end of the year is always really unreliable because people are shopping for Christmas gifts and spending time with their family. It’s really created a love-hate relationship because sometimes, especially when I’m making good money there, I feel really empowered and inspired. But other times, when I buy promo and end up getting scammed, I feel really defeated. I just bought $180 worth of promo the other day. It was supposed to get 300 fans from it and the girl I bought it from was on a list that was considered a verified seller list, but I haven’t made one sale from those people yet and usually, you make your money back in the first few days. I’m learning so much about how business works.

Jules: Sounds like some boss bitch shit!

Lexie: It is. I’m really embracing the whole “you got to spend money to make money” thing. You gotta take risks sometimes. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s really interesting to see the way that these girls are networking. I’ve only met a few who I felt had integrity and ethics. If the chick is not on the same level of ethics and morality as me, she’ll usually get really defensive and be like, “oh that’s on you, not me.” It can honestly be really disheartening to see that. But I’ve met a few chicks who are just so compassionate and who share tips and tricks.

Jules: Shout out to the high vibrations women out there uplifting other women!

Lexie: Yess!

That’s all for this now, folks! But if you like what you’ve read, stay tuned for part 2 of this interview.
