What was your journey into this world?
I’ve always been fascinated by ones capacity for pleasure.
I fell in love with an older gentleman who helped me tap into my body and experience pleasure on a deeper level, which resulted in me realising I am very sensual.
I stumbled upon Shibari by chance, and felt extremely drawn to the presence I witnessed.
I have always held space for people in a unique way, and this just became another unexplored depth I got to experience. The interplay between power dynamics fascinate me. Our ability to deep dive into the unknown waters of pleasure, enamour me. This work is layered & is experienced differently by individuals.
Do you have a mission?
My mission is to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals to explore and embrace sensualism, fostering a journey of sensual liberation and reclaiming the right to pleasure. I believe in nurturing self-discovery, creativity, and authentic connection, empowering individuals to delve deeply into their own sensuality.
This journey is about embracing one’s desires, breaking free from societal norms, and celebrating the beauty of personal expression. Together, we can cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves, allowing for greater joy, fulfilment, and intimacy in our lives.
How would you describe your style in a nutshell?
Miss Moon aka Shibari South Africa.
My style is unique, I am not particularly into a traditional style of Shibari or Tantra. I work with intuition and tapping into the body.
This work is not a one size fits all, I approach my sessions with an individualistic approach. Listening and feeling into the energy of what is needed. I believe in creativity within this space, a natural state of flow.
What is your favourite thing about your work & what are the biggest challenges?
My favourite thing is the energy of each session. It is as strong for me as it is for my clients. I find it deeply nourishing to hold space and facilitate unchartered waters of the body. It’s incredible to see the difference within the energy field of my clients after each session.
My biggest challenge in South Africa is the competitive nature of people within the field. I feel there is more than enough space for all of us to thrive in this world and to bring our unique gifts without a notion of lack. I really hope this changes and I envision a community that fosters a sense of support, as we all grow.
I am also part of a very conservative culture, but this is slowly changing. I don’t find it too challenging, as I know the people that are meant to work with me, will.
What are the benefits of regular Shibari exploration?
Miss Moon, aka Shibari South Africa.
The biggest benefit of regular Shibari exploration to me is nervous system regulation. 90% of my clients have reported back how it feels like a deep state of relaxation, especially women.
In a world where so much is expected of us, the space I provide is nourishing and nothing is expected of you. You show up as you are, in your authentic expression.
I also find that this practice helps one appreciate their body, the look, feel and capability. We know the regular benefits include liberation, and sensual pleasure, depending on how in-touch you are to your body.
Who is your typical client?
I have mixed groups come to learn the art of Shibari from me, but it is mainly woman whom are interested in the container I hold. Most of my private sessions include women. I think it has something to do with me creating a space of deep relaxation where nothing is expected from you.
Mostly women want to receive nourishing and holding. It’s an honour for me to be this for them. It’s the medicine I need for myself, which is why I find it works.
What should more people know about your Shibari work?
My sessions are unique, I think you can see that from what I have written in my above answers.
Miss Moon aka Shibari South Africa.
I have my own style, I believe in creativity and listening to the body and how it wants to be manipulated/moved or held.
I work not only in the physical level, but also an emotional, mental and spiritual level.
How has your relationship with what you do evolved over time?
It started off in a strict, rigid way. I slowly learned that working like this isn’t right for me and that I don’t necessarily need to do things the way other people do. I developed my own flow, the more I slowed down and tapped into the unknown, the deeper the experience was.
I’m lucky that I have been able to tap into a medicine that is uniquely mine, harnessing and developing it alongside an arsenal of tools I incorporate. Anyone can tie knots, but not everyone can bring the specific energy I do. That is what is different.
What are your hopes for the future in the sensual world?
For all to become liberated in their experiences, for everyone, in particular women to reclaim their right to pleasure. It’s a revolutionary act.
