What was your journey into this world?
Funnily enough, I worked in childcare and education for eight years before transitioning into my current field, but I’ve always had a strong interest in sex and sexuality. At university, I had the opportunity to study topics like gender, sex, sexuality, and gender-based violence in society. This allowed me to research fascinating topics and write essays such as:
- “Exploring Friends with Benefits Relationships (FWBR) in Western Contemporary Society”
- “Is Sex Private?”
- “Do Men Experience Sexism within the Family Institution?”
- “A Sociological Report on The Sexual Politics of Meat”
- “Sex Work in Contemporary Society”
- “The Sex Industry and the Acceptability of Violence, Exploitation, and Stigmatization”
- “How Do People’s Opinions and Thoughts on Feminism Differ Based on Their Gender?”
- “What Was She Wearing?” (An article on victim-blaming and sexual assault)
- “The Social Construction of Gender”
During my time at university, I volunteered with three different charities, one of which supported sex workers doing social media, policy, events and admin. I was also working part-time as a nursery practitioner (I know, quite a different job!). When I graduated in 2020, nurseries remained open during the pandemic, so I was fortunate to secure a full-time job in the midst of a pandemic straight out of univeristy. I decided to pursue a career in childcare and education, but after a traumatic teacher training year, I was physically and emotionally unable to continue in that industry.
At first, I thought about becoming an RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) educator in primary and secondary schools, so I became an accredited Sex and Relationship Educator. However, I soon realized I was too traumatized to return to a school environment. I reached out to women’s rights and sexual health charities like I had done during university, and a reproductive rights charity responded, looking for a VA. I registered as self-employed, and now, accidentally, 1.5 years later, I’m running my own business and training to be a sex coach.
I never planned or wanted to run my own business or be self-employed, but here I am—and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
What are the benefits of hiring somebody as a sex-positive VA?
Consider how often you’ve tried to explain what you do to someone outside of the industry and been met with confusion or judgment. It’s common to encounter misunderstandings or feel uneasy when discussing your work with those who aren’t familiar with the sex industry.
Finding a sex-positive freelancer who understands the nuances of your field can be challenging. With a sex-positive VA and SMM, you avoid the discomfort of having to explain or justify your industry, as they come with built-in industry knowledge and acceptance.
I bring seven years of experience working, volunteering, and researching in the sexual wellness and women’s rights spaces, as well as being an Accredited Sex and Relationship Educator and a Sex Coach (in training). I’m well-versed in the topics of sex, relationships, and identity, having studied modules such as “Gender, Sex, and Sexuality” and “Identities and Intimacies” at university. My understanding of a wide range of sexual identities, orientations, and relationship styles is grounded in both academic knowledge and practical experience. I am pro-LGBTQIA+ rights, pro-sex work, kink friendly, and pro-abortion, ensuring that you will not face judgment or stigma when working with me. With my expertise, you can focus on growing your business without the concern of having to navigate these sensitive topics with someone who might not fully understand or appreciate your work.
Are there any misconceptions around hiring a VA to do admin etc. ?
Yes, I believe many of the misconceptions around hiring a VA stem from broader misunderstandings about hiring freelancers in general. Freelancers often don’t receive the same level of respect and treatment as full-time employees, especially when it comes to adhering to contracts, making timely payments, and respecting boundaries. It’s not uncommon for freelancers to face clients who expect them to be available 24/7, without consideration for the agreed-upon terms or working hours.
Another misconception is that hiring a VA, in particular, may be risky due to concerns around confidentiality and security, especially when handling sensitive information. However, most VAs are highly professional and take great care to ensure that your data and business information remain secure.
Many have strict protocols in place to protect client information and maintain confidentiality, just as any full-time employee or in-house assistant would.
What are your hopes for the future in the sensual world?
By May 2025, I plan to have achieved two significant milestones: becoming a Certified Sex Coach and a Clinical Sexologist. These qualifications will not only deepen my expertise but also enhance my ability to support and guide others in their sexual well-being.
While I am passionate about advancing my career in the sensual field, I also deeply value my current roles as a Virtual Assistant (VA) and Social Media Manager (SMM). I find immense satisfaction in these roles and have no intention of giving them up. As a result, I envision running two sex-positive businesses simultaneously. Balancing these dual roles will allow me to continue providing valuable administrative and social media support while also pursuing my goals in sex coaching and clinical sexology.
My overarching hope is to effectively manage these two ventures and continue expanding my knowledge and skills in the field. I am dedicated to ongoing learning and educating others about all aspects of sex and sexuality.
Anything else you want to add? Please do here!
Sex and social media are both meant to be fun and creative, but they often come with the pressure to be perfect and know everything all the time. I believe it’s important to strip both of these back to basics, allowing space for exploration, enjoyment, and authenticity in the process. By embracing the journey instead of striving for perfection, we can truly reconnect with the joy and creativity that both sex and social media offer.
